As every 8th March the Adeje Volunteer Firefighters have celebrated the day of our patron saint San Juan de Dios. This year, with the security restrictions due to the pandemic, we held a smaller ceremony with the fire brigade and their closest relatives, as well as a homily in honour of this saint, respecting the security protocols. In the middle of the ceremony, a minute silence and prayers were held in honour of the deceased former corpsmen. The parish priest of the municipality, Don Honorio Campos Gutiérrez, was the one who officiated the massof the patron saint as he does every year, watching over the protection of all firefighters.

St. John of God who worked as a nurse in the 15th century is a very important figure for us.He developed methods of hospital care for children and watched over their care. He is also known for saving the lives of patients in a burning hospital, suffering multiple burns. He was the founder of the Hospitaller Order named after him.

In the 35 yearsthat we have been doing our work, we have celebrated this day with passion and together with other associations such as those of Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, Güimar or Valle Gran Rey. We would have been very happy to gather many more people this year, but in spite of the circumstances we have faced this 8th March with the same enthusiasm as every year.
